Esperance is a port city located on the southern Indian Ocean coast of Western Australia, about 346 km south of Kalgoorlie. Esperance has a population of about 6,400 (1981 data). The area is known for its vast hinterland and is a major producer of wheat, flax, and sheep. It also has a developed salt industry and exports gold and nickel.
