🇮🇩 National Museum: Must Go in Jakarta

If you are a first time visitor to Indonesia, and you are arriving through Jakarta, the National Museum of Indonesia, right smack in the city centre, is a must visit as it is a comprehensive well-explained museum that gives you a good introduction to the diverse tapestry that is Indonesia.

Two things in particular stand out. First, you will see an entire garden filled with statues from Hindu mythology, showing the immense role that Hinduism played in the early history of Southeast Asia.

The second is the display of Indonesia’s many diverse ethnic groups. There is a huge map that shows you that, but what I liked more was the interactive segment where you could scan your face and the machine would tell you which ethnic group you resemble! For me I was matched with Sangir people!
