Changzhou’s niche attraction, the “Golden Pineapple” Baolin Temple, is a must-see.

Baolin Temple is the only Guanyin temple in Changwu area. It was built in the eighth year of Datong in the Southern Dynasties (527 AD). It was built by Emperor Wu of Liang Xiao Yan at his house to build a royal temple based on the beautiful legend that Guanyin Bodhisattva, who vowed to save all the sufferings in the world, incarnated into the human world and stepped on the West Taihu Lake. The founders of the temple were the Southern Dynasties' great monks Master Baozhi and Master Wuwei. The name "Baolin" is derived from the Buddhist scripture "The forest of Pure Land, lined with seven treasures".

The Guanyin Pavilion is 91.9 meters high. The outer wall of the pavilion is decorated with 108 niches in the form of a lotus pedestal and backlight, enshrining 108 different statues of Guanyin according to the 33 phases of Guanyin. The main deity in the pavilion is a 39-meter-tall three-faced Guanyin Bodhisattva. This three-in-one Guanyin uses wisdom and compassion to guide believers and open the door to salvation for all living beings.
