Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Ratchaworawihan

A temple that is a symbol of Chiang Mai people. Legend has it that if you go there, you will be blessed (when I went, the temple was undergoing renovation and was not yet complete). The temple is located in Doi Suthep-Pui National Park, 689 meters above the plains of Chiang Mai and 1,046 meters above sea level. It is a temple with a long history, starting from the invitation of the relic to be enshrined on the mountaintop in 1927. After that, there was the construction of a pagoda to cover the pagoda, the construction of the ordination hall, the Naga stairs, and the construction of a path to the temple by many religious leaders and city governors in each era until 2547 when the Fine Arts Department came to do a major renovation and improve the area around the pagoda, which is a beautiful viewpoint of Chiang Mai. It took 6 years to complete. In addition to walking up the Naga stairs, there is also a tram for convenience. For those born in the Year of the Goat, Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is considered the temple of your birth year. Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Open from 05.00-21.00 hrs. Tourists can walk up the 300-step Naga Stairs to the temple or take the cable car up and down Doi Suthep from 05.30-20.00 hrs. for 20 baht. You can also take the public songthaew from in front of Chiang Mai University on Huay Kaew Road to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, which operates from approximately 05.00-17.00 hrs.
