Wat Huai Plakang, the largest Guan Yin statue in Thailand

#tripfreeaccommodation
🏕 Originally a monastery, it was built in 2001 by villagers of Ban Huai Plakang. In 2005, Phra Ajahn Phobchok Tissavaṃso came to practice Dhamma and began constructing monks' quarters, a sermon hall, a dining hall, and a pagoda. In 2009, the National Office of Buddhism announced its designation as a temple, renamed Wat Huai Plakang.
🧎♂️ Today, Wat Huai Plakang attracts many devotees from across the country and abroad who come to pay their respects and practice Dhamma. It is considered an important center for spreading Buddhism in Chiang Rai.
Highlights and must-sees within the temple include:
🛕 Phobchok Tham Chedi, a nine-tiered chedi with contemporary architecture. The exterior is built in layers, each layered with a Chinese-style roof, decorated with dragons on all sides. The chedi's spire houses a bell-shaped pagoda in a traditional Thai style, adorned with a Burmese-style umbrella. The interior is decorated in a European style and has nine floors.

🛕 Inside the pagoda is a large replica of the Bodhisattva Guanyin, carved from fragrant wood. Each floor houses a Buddha image.

🐉 The white ordination hall, accessed by a Naga staircase, is magnificently decorated with stuccowork. Inside is a white principal Buddha image.

🌄 The Guanyin Bodhisattva statue, the largest Guanyin figure in Thailand, sits atop a hill, standing majestically at approximately 79 meters tall. It has 23 floors.

🏢 Inside the Guanyin statue, take the elevator to the 22nd and 23rd floors for a bird's-eye view of Wat Huai Plakang and the surrounding mountains. Elevator fare: 20 baht for Thais and 40 baht for foreigners. Elevators are open from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
