The low key cousin of Chiang Mai

While Chiang Mai has much more to offer and naturally gets picked over Chiang rai. But it isn't a case of this or that. Chiang rai deserves a day trip for all that it has to offer in the form of some famous temples. Even for stay purposes it offers a more laidback and nature oriented stay.

We took a day trip to Chiang rai while staying in Chiang Mai. If I can recollect, it was a nice whole day of tour. The drive to Chiang Rai takes about 3.5 hours. This is pretty good, as there is a nice new road that covers a lot of the distance. Mid way along the drive, we stopped by at Mae Kachan Hot Springs. The rest of the trip included a visit to the white temple, then the black temple and finally the Baan dam museum or the black house.
