King Mengrai's Shrine, Wat Doi Ngam Mueang

📍..Wat Doi Ngam Mueang is located on Ngam Mueang Road, Ban Hom Doi, Village No. 1, Wiang Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chiang Rai Province, within Chiang Rai Municipality.

📒..This ancient temple sits atop a small hill and houses the King Mengrai's Shrine. Built in 1317, Wat Doi Ngam Mueang originally consisted of only a stupa (reliquary) containing the ashes of King Mengrai the Great. It was built by Phaya Chaisongkhram, King Mengrai's son.

..In the 19th Buddhist century, after King Mengrai passed away in Chiang Mai in 1317, his son, Phaya Chaisongkhram, cremated his body and brought his ashes to Doi Ngam Mueang.

..Later, in 1487, Phraya Sararatcha Ngoenthong renovated and built a temple called "Wat Doi Ngam Muang"
