Discover Thailand's Only Blue Temple - Wat Rong Suea Ten

Wat Rong Suea Ten (วัดร่องเสือเต้น) also known as the Blue Temple is located in the Rimkok district of Chiang Rai, near the famous Chivit Thamma Da cafe. The temple is said to have been completed in 2015 and opened to visitors in 2016. The temple's name "Rong Suea Ten" means the ditch of the dancing tiger. The origin of this name is because in the past, there were many tigers in this area and they often jumped across the nearby river. There is a story that the locals received a piece of paper in the old temple on the land of the Blue Temple. They found two Thai words in the paper, “ร่อง” which means ditch or ditch, “เสือ” which means tiger and “เต้น” which is the verb for dancing. From then on, the people here decided to call their village Rong Suea Ten. This is also the reason why the Blue Temple is called Wat Rong Suea Ten in Thai.

In the past, at the location of the current temple, there were ruins of a temple that had been abandoned for at least 80 years. In 1996, the villagers here decided to build a place to worship Buddha at this special place. The construction of the temple began in October 2005 and was completed 10 years later. Compared to its “brothers”, the White Temple and the Black Temple, the Blue Temple is a less crowded and less known place for tourists on Thailand tours. However, this is changing rapidly, so now is a good time to make a visit here.
