🌏 Breathtaking from Above – Golden Triangle Viewpoint, Chiang Saen

Standing at the Golden Triangle Viewpoint in Chiang Saen was one of those moments that felt quietly powerful. The view from the top was stunning—you could clearly see where the Mekong and Ruak rivers split and define the borders between Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar. That Y-shaped divergence is iconic, and to see it with your own eyes is surreal.
Knowing the history of the region—that it was once infamous for opium trade—made the experience even more interesting. There’s a sense of contrast: serene landscape now, but a heavy past behind it.
The monument at the viewpoint is a great photo spot, and the whole area feels quite peaceful. It’s not a massive place, but definitely worth stopping by if you’re in the Chiang Rai area.
I recommend going early before the tour buses arrive. Bring a hat and water because it can get hot, and there’s not much shade.
It’s a short stop, but the views and sense of place make it a memorable one.
