🏚Wat Phra That Doi Phu Khao, or Wat Phra That Doi Pu Khao, is a temple and historical site built during the Hiranya Nakhon Ngern Yang era.
🙏🏽Legend tells of Phraya Lao Jang Rat, the first king of Hiranya Nakhon Ngern Yang, having three sons: Lao Ko, Lao Kua, and Lao Kao.
⛰One day, the three sons were traveling and encountered a large crab. They chased it, but the crab escaped into its hole.
🏘Later, Phraya Lao Jang Rat ordered Lao Ko to rule Muang Kwang (Chiang Khong), Lao Kua to rule Muang Phalan Phanong (Yong), and Lao Kao to rule Muang Hiranya Nakhon Ngern Yang.
🛕Lao Kao was given the title Phraya Lao Kao Kaew Muang Ma in remembrance of the incident that befell his three brothers. He therefore built a chedi on the hill where the giant crab fled around 759 CE, thus establishing Wat Phra That Doi Pu Khao.
Highlights and attractions within the temple include:
🏚 The old viharn (ordinary pavilion) houses the Phra Chiang Saen Singh 1 pavilion and several other Buddha images. Behind the viharn is a chedi, an ancient structure, and a glass wall, all of which are in a state of disrepair due to time.
🙏🏽 Phra Phutthasiri Trairat (Phra Buddha Siritrairat), a walking Buddha image.
🙏🏽 Luang Pho Chiang Saen Singh 1 (Luang Pho Chiang Saen Singh 1)
