Alishan Mianyue Line Hiking｜Zhaoping Station ⇄ Shihou Station

This round-trip journey spans approximately 9.2 kilometers, starting at Zhaoping Station and ending at Shihou Station. The hike takes about 6 hours in total. While it’s not an easy trek, it’s absolutely worth the effort!

Walking along the old forestry railway, you’ll be surrounded by pristine forests and breathtaking mountain views. The fresh air will make you want to take deep breaths, helping you momentarily escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The trail preserves 14 tunnels and 24 bridges. Counting them as you go is quite fun, and walking through the abandoned railway feels like traveling back in time.

* You’ll encounter collapsed sections that are truly awe-inspiring—a thrilling challenge for those unafraid of heights!
* Next comes the longest tunnel on the route. Inside, you’ll find accumulated debris, slippery ground, and complete darkness. Be sure to bring a headlamp or flashlight, as phone lights are insufficient and unsafe for navigating this area!
* Other tunnels may have more water accumulation but pose no major obstacles—just watch your step.

🔹 Gravel Zone Reminder
There’s a short gravel section along the way, which takes about 1–2 minutes to pass. It’s recommended to move through quickly and avoid lingering to ensure safety.

📝 Entry Reminder

The Mianyue Line is part of the "One-leaf Orchid Nature Reserve." You must apply for a conservation area entry permit from the Forestry Bureau in advance before entering.

🔚 Travel Tips

It’s best to start your hike in the morning and prepare the following gear:

* Headlamp/flashlight (essential for tunnels)
* Hiking boots/non-slip shoes
* Lightweight raincoat, snacks, and sufficient water
* Warm jacket (mountain weather can be unpredictable)
