March is the time I look forward to the most every year because it's when the cherry blossoms in Alishan are in full bloom. The area boasts a wide variety of cherry blossoms, including Taiwan's native Formosan cherry, as well as Yoshino cherry, Yaezakura, and Fuji cherry, painting the entire mountain in romantic hues. I took the Alishan Forest Railway in the morning, enjoying the sight of cherry blossoms stretching from the foot of the mountain to the summit, as if walking into a color-changing painting.
The area near Sister Ponds and the Sacred Tree Cluster is especially enchanting for photography under the cherry trees. Sometimes, you can even see mountain mist weaving through the blossoms, making it feel like you're strolling in a fairyland. I highly recommend starting your trip early in the morning—not only are there fewer crowds, but you also have the chance to witness the sunrise and sea of clouds, which are breathtaking when paired with the cherry blossoms. Although the cherry blossom season attracts many visitors, the staff manage the crowds efficiently, and shuttle buses are very convenient. Overall, Alishan's cherry blossoms are undoubtedly the top choice for cherry blossom viewing in Chiayi, and it's an experience you must try at least once in your lifetime!
