The ancient battlefield of Chibi in the Three Kingdoms period

To reach Chibi, you can take the high-speed rail to Chibi North Station or take a conventional train to Chibi Station. From the Hongji Bus Station next to Wuchang Station, take a bus to Chibi for 40 RMB. From Wuchang Station, take a hard-seat conventional train for 18.5 RMB. Departures are limited to the morning and afternoon/evening hours, and the journey takes just over an hour. After getting off the train, transfer directly to an online taxi, which is very cost-effective for a group of three or four. The journey takes about an hour.

The ancient battlefield scenic area features numerous displays related to characters and stories from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, recreating the scenic area, such as "The Peach Garden Oath," "Baifengtai," "Fengchu Nunnery," "Eight Diagrams Formation," and "Borrowing Arrows from the Straw Boat." The indoor exhibition hall features models of Three Kingdoms-era warships, explaining the background and events of the Battle of Chibi. The highlight is, of course, taking photos of the cliff carvings along the Yangtze River. It turns out there's more than one carving at Chibi, so of course, take photos of them all. From this point, gaze across the river and imagine Cao Cao's 800,000 troops gathering on the other side, a chain-linked formation of ships.

We recommend visiting in autumn, when the weather is neither too hot nor too cold. Winter can be quite cold when windy. Ride-hailing drivers reported temperatures reaching 44°C in July and close to 40°C in other summer months. During the rainy season, the Yangtze River floods, potentially submerging the stone carvings and closing the scenic area. Note that the restaurant within the scenic area is closed, likely due to low attendance and the lack of staff. The only restaurants operating are beverage vending machines and a convenience store.
