Time Stands Still in Xiahaoli: A Nostalgic Stroll Through Chongqing’s Hidden Gem

#discoverchina #chongqing
Stepping into Xiahaoli feels like unlocking a portal to old Chongqing—where weathered stone paths, crumbling brick walls draped in ivy and moss-covered stairways whisper stories of the past. Unlike the city’s buzzing downtown, this neighborhood moves at its own rhythm: elderly residents play mahjong in sunlit courtyards while the scent of chili oil and coal-fired street snacks lingers in the air. Climbing to the vantage point near the old teahouse,I gasped at the panorama—the Yangtze River glittering below, framed by the sleek arc of Dongshuimen Bridge, where modern traffic flows above this forgotten pocket of history.
Wandering downhill, I ducked into hipster cafés tucked into Qing-era buildings, browsed handmade workshops and couldn’t resist a steaming bowl of suanlafen (sour-hot sweet potato noodles)from a granny’s stall.
