According to historical records, during the late Qin and early Han dynasties, warlords emerged, vying for supremacy in the Central Plains. Han Xin, a general under Liu Bang, led his troops to attack the State of Qi. King Tian Guang of Qi was killed, and Prime Minister Tian Heng led 500 soldiers to retreat to this island. After Liu Bang proclaimed himself emperor, he sent envoys to summon Tian Heng to surrender. Tian Heng refused, claiming he would "die without a saddle," and so he committed suicide on the way to Luoyang. Upon hearing the tragic news, the 500 soldiers on the island collectively committed suicide by slashing their swords. The world, moved by the loyalty and bravery of Tian Heng's 500 soldiers, named the island Tianheng Island.
