Chongqing Westin - Reflections on Luxury Experience
Room Type: One-Bedroom Suite
After staying at the Regent, when choosing between the Westin and Conrad, I ultimately selected Chongqing Westin - dubbed the "Asian Flagship" - due to Conrad's slightly remote location. However, the stay left me with some regrets.
Hotel Service
Upon arriving by taxi, the on-site management appeared somewhat chaotic. The entrance was blocked by other vehicles, forcing us to drag our luggage to the first floor ourselves. No staff came to assist initially, and the crowded lobby with diverse visitors suggested multiple hotels shared the building - a rather underwhelming first impression.
At check-in, all three counters had long queues. We were informed our room wasn't ready and needed 30 more minutes, so we waited at the executive lounge during afternoon tea. Staff promised to deliver our room cards there when ready.
Room service response was notably slow, often taking over 30 minutes - a clear contrast to Regent's 15-minute standard, indicating room for improvement.
🏘️ Room Type/Layout
The suite showcased ambitious initial design, with overall style reflecting the hotel's positioning and attention to detail.
🛌 Amenities/Facilities
Luxury hardware included: Hermès scarves, B&O TV, ergonomic chairs worth thousands, and Heavenly Beds, demonstrating significant investment. However, likely due to cost control, amenities were minimal - just four bottles of Pure Life water with no complimentary items, and a fully-priced minibar.
Summary
While the hardware is undoubtedly luxurious, factors like Marriott's high-tier member volume and cost control have impacted service quality and some outdated amenities, making it hard to live up to its "Asian Flagship Westin" title.
