This year, the Wushan International Red Leaf Festival opens on November 26, 2025. The winter red leaves of Wushan are quietly putting on a visual feast.
2025 Wushan Red Leaf Viewing Guide:
🍂 In late November, the red leaf index is between 10% and 35%, with leaves turning yellow, making it a suitable time for travel and viewing.
🍂🍂 In early December, the red leaf index is between 35% and 60%, during the holiday viewing period, with colors ranging from red-yellow to orange-red, ideal for viewing.
🍂🍂🍂 By mid-December, the red leaf index can reach 60% to 95%, with all leaves deep red, dark red, or purple-red, the best time to enjoy the red leaves.
This year, it is recommended to visit the Three Gorges to see the red leaves between December 1 and December 15.

1. Seize the best timing: The peak of autumn colors is very short and greatly affected by the year’s temperature and humidity. The times listed are based on previous years; be sure to check the current year’s red leaf reports or the latest information from local tourism authorities before traveling.
2. Handle crowds and beautiful scenery: Popular autumn viewing spots often attract many visitors. To avoid crowds, try to travel on weekdays or look for tours offering special time slots like early morning or evening visits.
3. Clothing preparation is important: When going to high-altitude areas, be sure to bring warm clothing such as windbreakers and light down jackets, as these places have large temperature differences between day and night.
4. Choice of transportation: Red leaf scenic areas are usually on mountains, with long distances between spots and sometimes inconvenient transportation. Choosing a chartered car may be more convenient than pure self-guided travel.
5. On the official opening day of the red leaf festival, the leaves may not yet be fully red.
