In the heart of the commercial city of Fukuoka, nestled among the greenery of Tenjin Park,
it is protected by a large camphor tree over 300 years old.
Its presence, enshrined for over 400 years, is truly impressive.
In 1601, Lord Kuroda Nagamasa, the founder of the domain,
was temporarily enshrined at Kogarasu Shrine in order to build Fukuoka Castle.
In 1608, a new shrine was built and the shrine was moved to its current location.
The votive plaques are adorable, square, and colorful, creating a visually stunning sight.
This lovely shrine is a must-visit when shopping in Tenjin.
