A day in Cinque Terre is all about sea views, pastel villages, and relaxed wandering. The area is made up of five villages along the Ligurian coast — Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore — all connected by train, trails, and boats.
🌅 Morning – Start Early
• Begin your trip early from La Spezia or another nearby town. The train from La Spezia to the first village, Riomaggiore, takes about 10 minutes.
• Arrive in *Riomaggiore* and wander down its narrow lanes to the small harbor. The colorful houses stacked on the cliffs look stunning in the morning light.
• Grab a cappuccino and a pastry from a local café before heading to the next village.
🚆 Late Morning – Manarola Magic
• Take the train to *Manarola*, one of the most photographed spots in Cinque Terre. Walk to the viewpoint near Nessun Dorma for that postcard-perfect view of the village and sea.
• If the weather’s warm, take a swim or just sit on the rocks and enjoy the sound of the waves.
🍝 Midday – Lunch & Views
• For lunch, try local specialties like trofie al pesto (fresh pasta with basil pesto) or seafood spaghetti. Many small restaurants have terraces overlooking the sea.
• After lunch, take the train or boat to *Vernazza*. This village has a beautiful small harbor and a tower you can climb for views of the coast.
🌿 Afternoon – Coastal Stroll
• If you have time and energy, walk a short part of the coastal trail between Vernazza and *Monterosso al Mare*. It’s one of the most scenic parts of the Cinque Terre hike, about 1.5–2 hours with stunning views.
• If hiking isn’t your thing, just take the train directly to Monterosso. This is the largest village, with a sandy beach where you can relax and swim.
🌇 Evening – Sunset by the Sea
• Enjoy gelato or a glass of white wine by the beach in Monterosso as the sun sets over the Ligurian Sea.
• Take the evening train back to La Spezia or your base town after sunset.
Tip: Buy the Cinque Terre train pass for the day — it covers unlimited train rides between the villages and makes exploring easy. Wear comfortable shoes, bring water, and keep your camera ready — every turn reveals another view worth remembering.
