Danzhou Ancient City

Introduction: Danzhou Ancient City is located six kilometers southwest of Danzhou City, where the ancient Danzhou provincial capital was situated, now known as Zhonghe Town. The famous poet Su Dongpo was exiled here for three years during the Song Dynasty. Influenced by Su Dongpo's contribution to the local culture, the residents have a passion for composing poetry and engaging in poetic exchanges, earning the town the reputation of 'Home of Poetic Couplets.' In May 2006, it was listed as a key national cultural heritage site in the sixth batch.

Navigation: From the Dongpo Academy parking lot, take a small road heading northwest for 2 minutes, and you will see a lying stone inscribed with 'Zhonghe Ancient Town.' (This walking route is clearer. If you navigate directly to 'Zhonghe Town,' it can be confusing and easy to get lost.) Parking is available at any time along the road.

Impressions: After thousands of years, Danzhou Ancient City has mostly vanished, blending in with the majority of villages in Hainan. The Wuding Gate is overgrown with weeds, and the surrounding area is indistinguishable from the rest. Standing here, one finds no place to indulge in deep thoughts.
