The main shrine of the god of learning, with its vermilion-painted tower gate, drum bridge, and 3-year-only "Floating Forest"

This is the head shrine of the 12,000 Tenmangu shrines nationwide, dedicated to Sugawara Michizane, known as the god of learning.

The main hall, which is also the grave of Michizane, is designated as an important cultural property.

👆Highlights of the grounds

The vibrant vermilion-painted tower gate.

A popular photo spot!

When heading to the main hall, the gate has a double roof made of turret bark,

and when returning, the gate has a single roof, which is different in shape.

The Taiko Bridge

The Taiko Bridge, Flat Bridge, and Taiko Bridge are said to purify the mind and body when crossing them

They are said to represent the past, present, and future.

The "temporary hall" created during the renovation of the main hall

The roof is covered with trees and grass, making it look like a floating forest

The "floating forest" can be seen for three years only.

There are many statues of cows, such as bronze and stone cows, in the precincts, and only the heads of each are shiny, as it is believed that stroking their heads will give you wisdom.

Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is famous for its plum blossoms. From very early to very late blooming,
about 6,000 plum trees of 200 varieties bloom in succession.
I would like to come and see these plum blossoms someday.
The fortune slips also change color with the seasons, for a total of 11 colors.
The one I saw was orange, reminiscent of the autumn leaves.
