A shrine in Saifu, Dazaifu City, Fukuoka Prefecture

This is the head shrine of the 12,000 Tenmangu shrines in Japan, and Sugawara no Michizane is enshrined as the deity.

Michizane was a great man who showed academic talent from an early age and made a brilliant leap from scholar to the political world.

It is also famous as one of Japan's leading gods of learning, and students from all over the country visit it every year to pray for success.

The main hall, an important cultural property, is undergoing major renovation for the first time in 124 years, over a period of about three years, starting in May 2023.

During the renovation period, you can worship in the temporary hall.

The bold design with a forest on the roof is also a highlight.
