Death Valley is otherworldly. I visited in February to avoid the extreme heat, and it was perfect. The landscape shifts from salt flats at Badwater Basin — the lowest point in North America — to colorful hills at Artist’s Palette and massive sand dunes in Mesquite Flat. Sunrise at Zabriskie Point was magical, with gold and pink light washing over the desert. Despite its name, Death Valley is full of life if you know where to look — desert flowers, lizards, and even the occasional coyote. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re on another planet entirely.
