Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque

It was a large mosque, built by the first ruler of the Islamic Sultanate of India, the founder of the Mamluk dynasty, Qutb-ud-din Aibak, in the 12th century and then completed in the 13th century and further enlarged in the early 14th century. It was built on the site of an earlier Hindu temple, using bare material from this same temple and 27 other temples. Today the prayer hall no longer exists, but among the imposing remains are the large arches and pillars of the entrances with a fine decoration in the classical Islamic style; then of course there is the grandiose Qutab Minar, practically intact, as well as the Alai Darwaza; but above all I was struck by the cloisters of the large courtyard, whose pillars, of Hindu workmanship, present a splendid workmanship.
