The Church of Saint Sava: a place from which you can see all of Montenegro

#hellohalloween

Above the island of Sveti Stefan, on the top of a hill, stands a tiny stone church. It has just one room, a bench against the wall, and an endless view of the sea. From here, you can see everything: the island's red roofs, Budva Bay, the mountains, and the horizon where the Adriatic meets the sky.

The Church of Saint Sava (Crkva Svetog Save) was built in the 15th century. Sailors are said to have erected it to offer thanks for their safe return home. Nowadays, it attracts not only believers but also those who simply want to see one of the most beautiful views in Montenegro.

📍 Location: Above the island of Sveti Stefan, approximately 2 km from the coast, Montenegro.
🕐 When to go: Best time to visit: morning or sunset—the light is soft, and the sky takes on peachy hues.

How to get there (current as of 2025)

🚗 By car:
From Budva - about 20 minutes along the E80 highway to the turnoff for Sveti Stefan, then follow the serpentine road up (follow the sign for Crkva Svetog Save). There's a small parking lot at the top.

🚶 By foot:
From Sveti Stefan, you can hike up the trail - about 30-40 minutes. The road is steep, but offers stunning views.

🚕 By taxi:
From Budva - about €20-25. You can arrange for the driver to wait for you at the top for 20-30 minutes.

What to see:
- The Church of Saint Sava - small but well-maintained, with the Montenegrin flag on the roof.
- Views of the entire Adriatic coast.
- Small stone benches and a picnic area.

☕ Tip: Bring water and a hat—there's no shade at the top. And if you're lucky, you'll be completely alone.
