Arriving at Sayedabad Bus Terminal in Dhaka, I really felt what order in chaos is. As soon as I stepped off the bus, I saw a busy scene in front of me, with buses parked everywhere, whistles blaring one after another, and the air was mixed with the smell of diesel and dust. It was completely different from the clean and bright environment of Taipei Transfer Station, with clear signs and information counters.
There is no electronic timetable or unified ticket window here, only small counters and waiting areas set up by each bus company.
I already knew that this kind of place cannot be played by the rules. So I was not surprised at all, but felt that this chaos itself was part of the journey. There is no fixed departure time here. The driver will wait until the seats are full and the tickets are sold out before leaving. There is no broadcast to call the number, and it all depends on the tacit understanding of the locals.
The journey took about three hours. From departure to arrival, the driver was like a racer, stepping on the accelerator to the bottom and honking the horn to the blast. The whole journey was like a life-or-death situation. The horns never stopped. My eardrums wanted to give up several times.
There was no air conditioning on the bus, only a few shaky small electric fans. At that time, I had to keep hypnotizing myself: this is a very rhythmic Bangladeshi music.
The driver often went against the flow and overtook on the way. Every time he suddenly changed lanes, I wondered if I should buy insurance. Although I was really afraid of accidents, fortunately I arrived safely in the end. It was also a special experience that will be unforgettable.
