Chandeliers do something for the soul, don’t they? They stir emotions, their grandeur invoking respect for the immediate surroundings and, at times, awe.

This was exactly how I felt by the grandeur of Dublin Castle. Each room is regal and impressive in nature. This is only increased by the history and significance that lies behind the building.

Originally the seat of the British government’s administration in Ireland, Dublin Castle has been at the centre of the battle for independence and the struggles that came with it for the Irish republic. It now hosts the inauguration of the presidents of Ireland alongside other state events.

The history is fascinating and intriguing. Yes, you must drink Guinness whilst in Dublin. Yes, you need to pay a visit to Temple Bar whilst in Dublin. But it is vital that you immerse yourself in the history of Ireland and the Irish people whilst in Dublin. Dublin Castle will tick those boxes for you - and more!
