Located at the foot of Mount Yulei on the east bank of the Minjiang River in Sichuan, the Erwang Temple was built to commemorate Li Bing, the ancient governor of Shu Commandery, and his son, who masterminded the Dujiangyan Irrigation System. The temple features solemn, time-honored architecture that blends seamlessly with the traditional Western Sichuan style, constructed along the mountain slope. Inside, it enshrines statues of Li Bing and his son and bears the renowned water management maxim: “Dredge the channels deep, keep the weirs low.”
More than a historical and cultural relic, Erwang Temple stands as a lasting testament to the extraordinary hydraulic achievements of Li Bing and his son, as well as to the local belief in their divine guardianship over Sichuan’s waters.
