Recommended Reasons:
Zibai Mountain is named after the many ancient purple cypress trees on the mountain. It is a branch of the main peak Taibai Mountain in the Qinling range, with a highest elevation of 2,610 meters. It is famous for its unique landforms of "92 peaks, 82 plateaus, and 72 caves," and is known as "the top mountain of the Qinba Thousand-Mile Plank Road." The scenic area combines alpine meadows, primeval forests, karst landforms, and rare flora and fauna. It boasts Asia’s largest Tiantan community (subalpine meadow area exceeding 20,000 mu, with over 100 large and small kettle depressions), earning the reputation: "After visiting Huangshan, no need to see other mountains; after Jiuzhaigou, no need to see other waters; after Zibai, no need to see other grasslands."
This place has profound cultural heritage, famous for being the retreat of Zhang Liang, Marquis of Liu from the Han Dynasty. At the foot of the mountain, Zhang Liang Temple stands adjacent to Zibai Mountain. Its tallest building, the "Shu Shu Lou" (Book Granting Tower), emerges amidst sea of clouds and pine waves, blending natural and cultural landscapes. Core attractions include Tiantan Meadows, Zhuge’s Qin-playing Rock, Xuan Nu Cave, Qingfeng Gorge, and more. When the morning sea of clouds surges, the meadows and distant mountains form a "cover-worthy" painting, making it an excellent destination for photography, hiking, and scientific exploration.
🌟 Must-Experience Highlights
Tiantan Community: China’s largest subalpine meadow Tiantan group, lush green in summer and golden in autumn, perfect for horseback riding, strolling, or camping under the stars.
Zhang Liang Temple: Nestled against Zibai Mountain, built to commemorate Zhang Liang, the ancient architecture is simple and elegant. The "Shu Shu Lou" overlooks the entire view, rich in historical atmosphere.
Karst Wonders: Natural rock formations like Zhuge’s Qin-playing and Xuan Nu Gazing at the Moon are vivid and lifelike. Caves such as Xuan Nu Cave and underground rivers hide geological mysteries.
National Geographic Check-in Spot: The scenic area features the "China National Geographic red frame installation," located near Jinzhutan under a thousand-year-old pine tree, the best spot to capture meadows, sea of clouds, and distant mountains in one frame.
📍 Nearby Recommendations
Liufengguan Town: Located in the southern part of Feng County, it offers a "slow time" mountain and water experience, forming a "nature + culture" deep travel route with Zibai Mountain.
⚠️ Notes
The scenic area is large; it is recommended to reserve 5-6 hours for touring. You can take the cable car (additional charge) to save energy.
The altitude is high with large temperature differences between day and night; even in summer, bring a light jacket. Wear non-slip shoes for hiking as some sections are steep.
The best visiting seasons are June to August (lush meadows) and October (brilliant autumn scenery). Arriving at 7-8 AM allows for capturing stunning sea of clouds.
Zibai Mountain combines natural wonders and historical depth. Whether hiking, cultural exploration, or photography, it offers an immersive experience of the "Sky Garden" deep in the Qinling Mountains.
