Lake Kawaguchi: Enjoying Cherry Blossoms and a Romantic Fuji Trip in May 2025

Lake Kawaguchi is located in Kawaguchiko Town, Fuji, Yamanashi Prefecture. It is one of the Fuji Five Lakes and part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. It boasts the longest shoreline and lowest elevation of the Fuji Five Lakes. It ranks second in area and tied with Lake Shoji for third in depth. In its center lies the small island of Unoshima (Cormorant Island). It is also the northernmost of the Fuji Five Lakes. Surrounded by lakeside inns, the reflection of Mount Fuji in the lake creates a stunning view on clear days, making it a popular spot near Mount Fuji.

Lake Kawaguchi was the first of the Fuji Five Lakes to develop tourism.

Hot springs were excavated during the Heisei era, and the Fuji Kawaguchiko Hot Spring Village is now established on its eastern shore. The lakeside area also boasts the Kawaguchiko Music Box Forest, the Tittokuyama Cable Car, the Kawaguchiko Sightseeing Boat, the Kawaguchiko Monkey Theater, campgrounds, and numerous hotels, inns, restaurants, and souvenir shops. The area also boasts the Kawaguchiko Boathouse, Yamanashi Prefecture's only boathouse. The boathouse and pier were originally located north of the Kawaguchiko Ohashi Bridge.
