Walking through the small towns at the foot of Mount Fuji

Pirou, Lasa, Fujinomiya, and Fujiyoshida were on my Japan must-see list, but waking up before sunrise in Fujinomiya to see Mount Fuji in summer was next level! No snow on the peak—so different from the usual winter scenes you see online, but it has its own wild magic.🗻
Top Spots to Visit
Mount Fuji (Fujinomiya side): Address: Mount Fuji, Kitayama, Fujinomiya, Shizuoka 418-0112, Japan. Open 24/7, year-round. For an amazing sunrise view (yeah, you gotta wake up super early😅), come in summer! There’s a unique, almost other-worldly vibe—plus, way fewer crowds compared to peak sakura or snowy months.
Fuji-Q Highland (Fujiyoshida): Address: 5 Chome-6-1 Shinnishihara, Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi 403-0017. Opening hours: 9:00 AM–8:00 PM Sat, 9:00 AM–7:00 PM Mon–Fri and Sun. Admission: 3330 yen. This theme park is an adrenaline dream—monster coasters, anime vibes everywhere, and some of the best mountain views mid-ride! Line up early for the ultra-popular rides (like Fujiyama and Eejanaika).
Getting Around
JR trains connect cities easily; buy an IC card for effortless travel on local lines and buses. To reach Mount Fuji, local buses run from Fujinomiya Station, and for Fuji-Q Highland, the park is right next to Fujikyu-Highland Station—super straightforward!
Eats
Try Fujinomiya yakisoba (fast, budget-friendly, and local). Plenty of snack stalls around Fuji-Q but there’s also sit-down dining at Fujiyoshida for ramen with a view.
Travel Tips
No snow on Fuji in summer! Bring sunblock, water, and a layer or two (mountain weather changes fast). ATMs aren’t everywhere—carry some cash just in case.
