Every summer, Fujisawa, Kamakura, and Enoshima host lantern festivals, with varying scopes of participation each year. This year, Enoshima Shrine continues to be part of the event, lighting up thousands of lanterns to offer visitors a magical nighttime experience on Enoshima.
The most captivating feature is the Zuishinmon Gate of Enoshima Shrine. With colorful projections, mythological stories are displayed on the gate, stairs, and torii. From 6 PM to 9 PM, a continuous display of mesmerizing lights and shadows unfolds.
As you enter Enoshima Shrine, you can't help but smile. The stairs and pathways are adorned with lanterns, complemented by colorful silk fabrics and tree light projections, making it feel like you're stepping into a divine realm.
The most beautiful area lies on the path from Nakatsunomiya to Okutsunomiya. Climbing the stairs and looking back, you can catch glimpses of the Shonan Sea through the trees. Moving forward, you'll find a harmonious dance of the shrine and lanterns.
When leaving Enoshima, don't forget to look back. The old house perched on the cliff is also illuminated, resembling a bright lighthouse that lights the way for visitors' hearts.
