While sightseeing in Fukuoka, I visited the tourist spot "Suikagami Tenmangu Shrine".
"Suikagami Tenmangu" is a shrine located in Tenjin 1-chome, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City, opposite ACROS Fukuoka. It is a shrine dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane. According to the explanation sign in the shrine grounds, in 901, while on his way from Kyoto to Dazaifu, Sugawara no Michizane saw his own reflection in the clear waters of the Yosogawa River as a water mirror, and later built a shrine there, calling it Suikagami Shrine or Kagami Shrine. In 1612, Kuroda Nagamasa, the first lord of the Fukuoka domain, moved it to this place, and the second lord, Tadayuki, rebuilt the shrine. It is said that the name of the downtown area of Fukuoka, "Tenjin", is named after this shrine. It is a beautiful vermilion-painted shrine. It is worth a visit!
