In the Hakata district of Fukuoka, there is an ancient temple - Tochoji Temple. It was founded by Master Kukai, a Japanese monk who traveled to China during the Tang Dynasty, in the first year of Datong. As the main temple of the Kyushu sect of the Shingon sect, the mountain is called Nanyue Mountain, and the main deity is Kobo Daishi. It is also a designated historical site by Fukuoka City.
As you enter the temple, you will see buildings full of Japanese characteristics, quiet courtyards, and magnificent main halls. Enshrined here is Japan's largest wooden seated Buddha statue, which is 10.8 meters tall, weighs 30 tons, and is magnificent. The Rokkakudo Hall houses six precious deities including Kobo Daishi. It is open to the public free of charge all year round, from 9:00 to 16:30.
During the cherry blossom viewing season this year, I went to Tochoji Temple. That day, the sun was shining, the breeze was blowing gently, and the cherry blossoms were falling like snow. Looking up, the pink and white petals look particularly beautiful against the blue sky. The sunlight shines through the gaps between the flowers, forming golden spots. Standing next to the five-story pagoda, with cherry blossoms in full bloom around me and a faint floral scent at the tip of my nose, at that moment, time seemed to stand still. I know that this year's cherry blossoms at Tochoji Temple in Hakata have been forever engraved in my memory.
