Abuto Kannon, Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture

A small Kannon Shrine at the tip of the cape. Admission is 100 yen. Shoes are strictly prohibited inside the shrine grounds, so you must take them off before entering, but socks can make the wooden boards slippery. The fence is also very low, so be careful not to fall into the sea. At low tide the rocks are exposed, so if you fall you could be in danger. Looking down from the shrine grounds you can see that it is higher than it looks. I wonder if anyone has fallen off in the past. Its origins are unclear, but it seems that it is dedicated to breasts, in prayer for safe childbirth and abundant milk after childbirth. There were many votive plaques in the shape of breasts on display.
