Geneva | Home to the United Nations European Headquarters---Palais des Nations

Geneva is renowned not only as a major Swiss city but also as the European headquarters of the United Nations. The headquarters is housed in a white stone building resembling a palace, known as the "Palais des Nations," situated in Ariana Park by Lake Geneva.

Constructed in the 20th century, the Palais des Nations features classic European palace architecture. Until 1946, it served as the main headquarters of the League of Nations. Outside the palace, there are several notable art installations, such as the giant wooden chair with a missing leg, the sea of national flags, and the armillary sphere.

However, as it is a working office of the United Nations, access is restricted without a pass. Only certain areas are open for guided tours by reservation, such as the Consultation Hall adorned with stunning murals or the conference hall, which is even larger than the Paris Opera House. Those interested can book a tour to explore the mysterious world of the United Nations in just an hour.
