Downtown Genoa is a mix of old and grand that really sticks with you. The narrow streets wind through the heart of the city, sometimes feeling like a maze, but that’s part of the charm. Walking around, you’ll see amazing Renaissance architecture everywhere—especially along Via Garibaldi and Via Lorenzo. These streets are lined with old palaces that show just how wealthy and powerful Genoa was back in the day. The details on the buildings, the carved stone, and the big doors all feel like stepping back in time.
Besides the palaces, the whole old downtown has this lived-in feel. It’s busy but not overwhelming, with small shops, cafés, and little squares tucked between the buildings. Places like Piazza De Ferrari add a touch of grandeur, while the side streets give you a glimpse of everyday life.
It’s a great area to explore on foot, taking in the contrast between the impressive architecture and the narrow alleys where locals go about their day. Definitely worth spending some time just wandering without a strict plan—you never know what hidden corner or cool spot you might find.
