Penang: A World Cultural Heritage Site, and a World Cultural Heritage Site

Hong Kong and Penang were both former British colonies and have many similar historical backgrounds. But now the two cities are heading in very different directions.

Penang’s old town, George Town, is a world-class place with many old buildings. It’s like taking a time machine back to the past.

Hong Kong is an international financial center, with skyscrapers on both sides of the Victoria Harbour.

This is my first time traveling to Penang, and I was full of anticipation at first. But after arriving, I found that there was a gap between what I had imagined and what I had imagined. I don’t know if it was due to the impact of the epidemic, but many shops in the old city were closed, and some old buildings seemed to be abandoned. The Everbright Shopping Mall, which is known as a transportation hub, is in a terrible state, with nine out of ten rooms empty. Even the newer 1st Avenue food court only has one restaurant left in operation.

If the old city is not properly protected, it will eventually seriously affect the cityscape. #Penang #World Heritage
