Impressions of Penang (Part 1)

Hiking for two days in Penang's 31℃ barbecue mode, more than 20,000 steps a day, Shantou Street ~ Zhang Bishi's Former Residence ~ St. George's Church ⛪ ~ Cornwallis Castle ~ Mural Street ~ Zhouxing Bridge ~ Nyonya Museum ~ Penang Hill ~ Penang Botanical Gardens (nothing to see, not recommended). It was as if I had returned to Chaoshan... The one that impressed me the most was Zhang Bishi's Former Residence (Pictures 1 to 3): Zhang Bishi went to Southeast Asia at the age of 18 and later became the richest man in Southeast Asia. Zhang Bishi's Former Residence is the largest existing Chinese garden-style residence from the Qing Dynasty in Southeast Asia and is said to be the house with the best Feng Shui in Malaysia. Part of it is now used as hotel rooms; the other is Penang Long San Tang Qiu Gongsi (Figures 4 to 7), the only ancestral hall in Penang listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The technology, skill and detail of its stone carvings, wood carvings, murals and gold leafing are unprecedented anywhere in Malaysia. (superior)
