Heap Seng @ 29, George Town
Nestled along Lebuh China, Heap Seng @ 29 is a cosy restaurant best known for its oysters — but even if you don’t eat oysters, it’s still worth a visit. The place has a warm and inviting ambience with subtle Western-Chinese touches and even a large aquarium filled with colourful corals and fish, giving the dining space a relaxing vibe.
We didn’t go for the oysters this time, but the rest of the menu truly impressed us. The fried sea bass taco is a must-try — crispy, tangy, and refreshing with its chopped tomato topping. The clam soup was another highlight; the clams were fresh, the broth light yet flavourful. We also ordered the crispy pork belly and salmon, both well-prepared and nicely seasoned.
Service was attentive and friendly, and the restaurant felt comfortable with good air-conditioning — a nice break from the Georgetown heat. While Heap Seng is famous for its oysters, it clearly shines beyond that, offering a good variety of seafood and meat dishes for every palate.
Overall, it’s a great spot for a relaxed meal with friends or family in the heart of George Town. Price is reasonable for the quality you get, and the dining experience feels a little special without being overly formal. Definitely a place we’d return to — next time maybe to try the fresh catch or something new from their seasonal menu.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4.5/5) – Great food, cozy ambiance, and a pleasant seafood experience even without the oysters!
