If you’re wandering around Nagore Street in Georgetown, Penang, make sure to drop by Caffeine & Chemistry. It’s one of those spots that immediately gives off a warm, cosy vibe the moment you walk in — modern yet laid-back, with that perfect mix of wood, warm lights, and a touch of Penang charm. The name might sound scientific, but this place takes both coffee and gelato seriously.

Their gelato is a must-try. Honestly, one of the best I’ve had in Penang. The flavors are rich and smooth without being overly sweet. I tried the Chocolate Whiskey and Coconut, and both were absolutely spot on. The Chocolate Whiskey had that subtle boozy kick that pairs perfectly with the creamy chocolate base, while the Coconut was refreshing and fragrant — the kind that makes you want to go for a second scoop. They’ve got quite a few unique flavors, so it’s worth taking a moment to sample before choosing.

Aside from gelato, they also serve good coffee and matcha-based drinks. Their coffee is nicely balanced — not too strong, but with enough character for a mid-day pick-me-up. It’s the kind of place where you can just sit, chat, and lose track of time.

The overall atmosphere is super chill — ideal for a catch-up with friends, casual meetings, or just to take a short break from exploring Georgetown. There’s a nice flow of people but it never feels overcrowded.

Located right along Nagore Street, it’s also surrounded by other interesting cafes, bars, and eateries, so you can easily make an afternoon out of it. If you’re into good gelato, coffee, and a relaxed space to hang out, Caffeine & Chemistry is definitely worth checking out.
