When you visit Yogyakarta, you must not miss the Javanese cuisine at the Melia Hotel's El Patio Restaurant.

The Yogyakarta Melia Proseani Hotel, full of rich tropical rainforest vibes, was the first hotel I stayed at during my two-month trip revisiting Indonesia—Yogyakarta being the second stop. Yogyakarta is located in the southern part of Java Island, near Central Java Province. It is famous for its culture, traditional cuisine, beaches, arts, and more.
The busiest street in Yogyakarta, Malioboro Street, is the hub for tourists and backpackers, just a few minutes' walk from the Melia Hotel. This street stretches from the northern Yogyakarta Monument all the way to the southern Yogyakarta Post Office intersection. It is also part of the Yogyakarta Cosmological Axis, which is an imaginary line that was officially recognized as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site last year. The 6-kilometer-long north-south Yogyakarta Cosmological Axis connects numerous historical landmarks, linked through the traditional ceremonies and governance system of the Sultanate—forming an axis based on Javanese culture with spatial concepts and philosophical significance.
During my stay at the Melia these days, I enjoy strolling along this street every day; it’s the atmosphere I love! As for the hotel itself, the highlight every day is enjoying authentic Javanese cuisine at the hotel’s open-air El Patio Restaurant! My favorite dishes include the Sumatra hot and sour Padang-style beef stew with coriander soup, Javanese shredded chicken turmeric soup with vermicelli and white cabbage called Soto Ayam, spicy turmeric and chili fish stew from North Sulawesi Manado, and grilled chicken from the Lesser Sunda Islands marinated with chili, shrimp paste, tamarind, and palm sugar. Every dish is a heavenly delight!
