Family Trip Near Shanghai|Explore the Underground Wonders with Kids, Complete Guide to Guangde Taiji Cave!

Guangde Taiji Cave, a hidden gem for family outings near Shanghai, is seriously underrated! We took our two-year-and-ten-month-old on a "cave adventure" this weekend, full of surprises all along, and the little one was completely engaged!

Taiji Cave is a national 4A-level scenic spot, featuring typical karst landforms, covering a total area of 140,000 square meters. The cave stretches over 5,000 meters and is divided into two main areas: the dry cave and the water cave. The water cave requires a boat ride, offering a very special experience, like entering a mysterious underground river world~

I have to say, this is the largest and most scenic karst cave I've visited in the Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai region! No wonder there's a saying, "After seeing Taiji, no need to see other caves." Even the Ming Dynasty writer Feng Menglong listed it as one of the "Four Wonders of the World." But due to limited promotion, it has few visitors and low commercialization, preserving a very natural feel, making it a pure experience for family trips.

The cave's scenery is incredibly rich, with layers of stalagmites, stone curtains, and stone waterfalls. Guided by the tour guide, the little one excitedly pointed at various shapes, guessing "like an elephant!" "like a mushroom!" The cave maintains a constant temperature of 18–22°C year-round. Remember to bring a light jacket in summer, and since the ground is damp, non-slip shoes are recommended.

Here's a bonus after exiting the cave—take the 360° panoramic open-air cable car down the mountain! The cable car has no glass windows, only railings, and is dozens of meters above the ground. As it glides slowly, the mountain breeze hits your face, and the view is full of greenery. That sense of openness and freedom is so healing! The baby was super happy, waving little hands the whole time~

🚗 Transportation: Self-driving is recommended. Navigate to "Guangde Taiji Cave." It’s about 2.5 hours from downtown Shanghai.

🎫 Tickets: It’s recommended to buy a package including the boat ride and elevator. There are over 200 steps inside the cave, so taking the elevator is advised when with young kids.

📌 Note: There are many stairs inside the cave, so don’t bring a stroller. Encourage your child to walk to help build their stamina!
