Chunyang Temple in Haizhu District, Guangzhou, also known as Chunyang Palace, is a Taoist temple in Guangzhou dedicated to Lü Dongbin, one of the Eight Immortals of Taoism. This Chunyang Temple is not only a religious site but also carries the rich Lingnan culture and historical memories.
Chunyang Temple has a long history. According to records, it was built in the Qing Dynasty and is part of the Guangzhou Chunyang Temple system. It was later renovated to its current form.
Chunyang Temple is a typical Lingnan Taoist temple. Although it is not large in scale, it has a solemn and ancient atmosphere. The main hall enshrines a statue of Lü Dongbin, along with other Taoist deities, and is bustling with incense offerings.
The architecture features traditional Lingnan style, using gray tiles and blue bricks, and incorporates Lingnan region's carving art in its decorations, such as exquisite wood carvings and brick carvings. Artworks themed around the Eight Immortals are particularly common.
As one of the centers of Lü Dongbin's belief, Chunyang Temple in Haizhu District regularly holds religious and folk activities. The 14th day of the fourth lunar month is Lü Dongbin's birthday, the most important festival of the year for Chunyang Temple. On this day, there are Taoist rituals and fasting ceremonies, attracting many believers and tourists to participate.
