The Rise of Dongshan

Today, the place name "Dongshan District" no longer exists in Guangzhou, but older residents still know the saying, "Wealth lies in Xiguan, prestige in Dongshan." Unlike the Xiguan mansions, which have long been popular destinations, the elegance and grandeur of Xinhepu near Dongshankou has always remained somewhat hidden, as if its true purpose was to be a vibrant residential area. The Xinhepu Historical and Cultural District, located in Yuexiu District, boasts a large existing complex of low-rise, courtyard-style modern buildings that blend Chinese and Western architectural styles. These historical relics reflect the diverse cultural characteristics of Guangzhou's residential areas. Xinhepu is also a red education base marked by the "Memorial Hall of the Third National Congress of the Communist Party of China" and an overseas Chinese cultural tourism zone marked by the "Five Great Overseas Chinese Gardens." The clear water, red brick walls, and Republican-era terrazzo, combined with the blooming flowers and plants of early spring, attract young women from all over the country, who come to admire the scenery and become part of the scenery themselves.
