As a foodie, I couldn’t visit Guangzhou without experiencing a traditional dim sum house — and Tao Tao Ju was at the top of my list. Founded in 1880, this century-old teahouse is said to be one of the most iconic places for Cantonese dim sum, and now I know why.

I visited the original flagship location on Dishifu Road (in the historic Shangxiajiu area). The moment I stepped inside, I felt like I had entered a different era — wooden beams, classic red lanterns, and the unmistakable buzz of locals and tourists alike. Pro tip: get there early, especially on weekends. The line builds up fast!

It’s not just about the food. Tao Tao Ju has that timeless charm — elderly locals reading newspapers, waitstaff pushing dim sum carts between round tables, and the constant clinking of tea cups. It felt authentic, comforting, and full of life.

If you’re ever in Guangzhou and want to experience traditional Cantonese dim sum in a setting that feels like a living museum, Tao Tao Ju is a must.
