The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Guangzhou is a grand tribute to Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the founding father of modern China. Located at the foot of Yuexiu Hill, this octagonal hall was built between 1929 and 1931 with public donations and designed by architect Lü Yanzhi.
The hall’s design is a unique blend of traditional Chinese architecture and modern engineering, featuring a massive interior space without columns, a blue-tiled dome, and red columns symbolizing strength and unity. A bronze statue of Dr. Sun stands proudly in the front plaza, while the building itself houses an auditorium for concerts and events, as well as exhibitions about Sun Yat-sen’s revolutionary life.
The surrounding grounds are tranquil, with landscaped gardens and symbolic pillars representing the harmony of China’s diverse ethnic groups. It’s both a cultural venue and a peaceful escape in the heart of the city.
