Travel Guide: Exploring Guangzhou Beyond the Canton Fair 🌸🏙️

Many people plan to visit the Canton Fair Complex 💼
— some for international business opportunities, and others just to explore Guangzhou,
a historic trading city with over a thousand years of history.

If you’re not attending the expo but still want to enjoy this city,
this post will share some travel highlights and simple transport tips 📍

We once talked with both a local from Guangzhou and a Thai friend studying here.
They both said the same thing:
“Guangzhou is a city of flowers.” 🌺
Locals love flowers and decorate their homes with them.
Thanks to the mild climate, flowers bloom beautifully all year round.
During our trip, we saw flowers along both sides of the roads everywhere!

Here are some places you should not miss:

1. Beijing Lu (Beijing Road)
A walking street with restaurants, souvenir shops, malls, and famous brands.

2. Zhujiang New Town
The modern district with tall, futuristic buildings.
At night, the buildings light up beautifully.

You’ll find the Guangzhou Library, Opera House, and a perfect spot to see the Canton Tower (2nd tallest tower in the world).

3. Liede Bridge
Another symbol of Guangzhou.
At night, the bridge lights change colors, best viewed from the riverside park.
It’s about a 2km walk from the MRT (or just call a Didi).
4. Shamian Island

A small island (0.3 sq km) that used to be a foreign concession of Britain and France in 1859

Today, the government preserves the architecture and turned it into a tourist area with a mix of Chinese and Western culture.

5. Yongqingfang
An ancient Qing Dynasty neighborhood restored in 2015.
Famous for its night lights, flowers, and cozy atmosphere.
You can also rent traditional Chinese costumes and take photos here — there’s even an entire street just for costume rentals and makeup shops!

6. Canton Fair Complex

The modern trade and exhibition center of Guangzhou.
It has many huge halls and hosts different expos e The most famous one is the Canton Fair, where international visitors come to discover new products and connect with Chinese and global businesses.
