When visiting Gyeongju, you simply cannot miss this iconic landmark—the elegant and serene "Cheomseongdae Observatory," standing quietly amidst a field of wildflowers. Not only is it a symbol of Gyeongju, but with over 1,300 years of history, it is also the oldest surviving astronomical observatory in East Asia!
Cheomseongdae was used to observe celestial phenomena and create agricultural calendars. What makes it special is that the structure is built with 362 stones, symbolizing the days of a lunar year. Every detail of its design reflects ancient astronomical wisdom! Just by looking at its exterior, you can sense the ancient people's romantic yet meticulous approach to the universe.
Approaching Cheomseongdae feels like stepping back in time. Surrounded by a vast, tranquil meadow and an open blue sky, the scene becomes even more breathtaking at sunset when the golden light bathes the tower, creating a stunning interplay of light and shadow. At night, when the tower is illuminated, it’s equally mesmerizing—perfect for a romantic stroll or capturing beautiful photos 📷.
📍Address: 140-25, Cheomseong-ro, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do
