Introducing Sanmenxia Dam
The Sanmenxia Dam, an AAA-rated scenic spot located northeast of Sanmenxia City in Henan Province, is my country's first large-scale water conservancy project built on the mainstream of the Yellow River. Known as the "First Dam of the Ten Thousand Mile Yellow River," the dam has become a beautiful lake in the Sanmenxia Gorge since its completion, when the reservoir fills from October to June each year.
The 120-kilometer stretch from the Sanmenxia Dam to Dayu Ferry in Ruicheng, Shanxi, is a vast expanse of shimmering blue waters, resembling the Milky Way in Tianchi Lake. Green mountains and lush trees stretch endlessly on both sides, creating a picturesque contrast between the mountain and water. In spring, autumn, and winter, flocks of wild ducks, flocks of wild geese, and precious white swans soar across the azure blue sky and clear waters. From June to October each year, the dam releases water, creating a spectacular spectacle of surging waves, roaring canyons, splashing water, and creating rainbows across the sky. Standing atop the Sanmenxia Dam, one can marvel at the majestic power of the "endless Yellow River rolling in."
